"Intocable" (2011), one of the most ticket phenomena of recent years, shows the life of a paraplegic man who builds unexpectedly a friendship with his caregiver.
The French film, together with "The Sessions" (2012) – Another risky film bet in which a therapist decides to be a sexual assistant to a paralyzed man – disturbs the audience, among other reasons, because they respond to a question not addressed in society: how do people with functional diversity live their sexuality?
Thanks to these two stories, based on real stories, several spectators have become familiar with the universe of those who have a disability, particularly when it comes to their participation, interest and experience with sex.
The films pose, for example, new conceptions about intimacy, while showing the role of the "sexual assistant".
This figure is envisaged in the policy of member countries of the United Nations (UN) after signing a convention on the Rights of persons with disabilities, since the sexuality of this sector of the population is also a matter of public health.
The purpose is to give people with disabilities health and sexuality programs at the same prices as the ones that exist for the rest of the people.
But what is a sexual assistant?
It is a person who, after completing the basic training (in Mexico requires a bachelor's degree) specializes in the support of the sexual life of people with functional diversity. This work requires detailed knowledge of the needs to make an effective accompaniment of sexual assistance.

The time and experiences I had along the way opened doors that I didn't know existed. A good example of this paradigm shift was the discovery of the kiss, said a beneficiary who asked to omit his name.
In Spain, for example, there is a place specializing in sexual assistance for people with disabilities who promote conscious sexuality, that is, "the one that passes between two people who are sharing a space of intimacy and freedom in absolute connection with the present moment, far from emergencies, stereotypes, inertias, fears or necessities".
In this clinic, says the psychologist specializing in neuro-rehabilitation and manager of TTB, Maria Clemente, the Protocol "is to receive the request, and once studied, the association suggests an interview, enlivened with a coffee, between assistant and user. They express their impressions to the coordinator of "tandem Intimity", which suggests or does not continue with the assistance. "From that moment on, people have total freedom to agree with the company."
It is important to emphasize that each case is a separate universe, and any organization must determine previously whether it is pertinent or necessary to make other queries before the meeting.
